New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of 2/14

Graham

Valentines Day is a time to express your love for the most wonderful, important and meaningful thing in your life - craft beer!  And instead of buying it chocolates or roses you can show your affection by heartily consuming it at the following craft beer events - enjoy! Monday, February 14 - Magic Hat Beer Tasting @ Broadway Dive Bar, Manhattan:

What says Valentines Day most to you?  A) Chocolates B) Overpriced Greeting Card Holiday C) Roses D) Magic Hat Beer.  In the unlikely chance that you answered D, then you've made it to the right place.  The Dive Bar on Broadway in Morningside Heights is having a Magic Hat beer tasting event Monday night for all you lovers...and haters...out there.  Stop on by for some of the best brews that Magic Hat has to offer.  Stick around for the good music and good atmosphere.  And the love.

Broadway Dive is located at 2662 Broadway at 101st Street, Morningside Hieghts, Manhattan.

Tuesday, February 15 - Geary's Brewery @ Rattle N' Hum, Manhattan:

When you think of Geary's one thinks of lobsters.  I know I do.  On Tuesday when I think of Rattle n' Hum, I'll now think of Geary's.  New Hampshire's staple brewery, Geary's, will be bringing some of their craftiest pours to you at Rattle n' Hum on Tuesday.  They'll be pouring the Pale Ale, Geary's Hampshire Ale, Porter, Winter, Autumn and a delicious Geary's Hampshire Ale on cask infused with whiskey.  With Whiskey!  New Hampshire winters are pretty frigid, what would you expect them to do?

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14th E 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues, Midtown East, Manhattan.

Tuesday, February 15 - A Taste of Victory @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:

Our favorite brewery from Pennsylvania will be having themselves an event at the Stag's Head on Tuesday.  Victory Brewing Co. will be setting up 10 draft lines that will be pouring all our favorites - Saison de BUFF, Moonglow, St. Victorious, Yakima Glory, Storm King, Pursuit Pale Ale and Harvest Pils.  They'll also be introducing their newest brew - Headwater Pale Ale.  Headwater refers to the water source that they use for brewing their craft - The Brandywine River.  They'll also be serving up some classic Philly-style cheese steak spring rolls in order to satiate your love for Philadelphia.  And steak.

The Stag's Head is located at 252 E 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, Upper East Side, Manhattan.

Wednesday, February 16 - Learn More About Beer with Blue Point @ Idle Hands Bar, Manhattan:

We all know plenty about beer.  It's kind of our passion, inspiration, life.  Well same deal goes for Blue Point and they are showcasing event to share their love with you.  They will be bringing a few of their master brewers down to Idle Hands Bar in Alphabet City to share their knowledge and their beer.  A $30 event ticket gets you access to a two hour event tasting featuring tastings of 5 of their brews, an expert to inform you and answer any questions about style and brand, special Blue Point pours, appetizers and collectibles to bring home.  Whether you are a beer genius or beginner Blue Point will bring their passion to you.

Idle Hands Bar is located at 25 Avenue B between 2nd and 3rd Streets, East Village, Manhattan.

Thursday, February 17 - Left Hand Tap Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Left Hand has been showing up a lot recently in the Beer Friends world.  Events around the city, visits to the brewery this past summer and a possible Fade to Black Beer Friends review coming in the near future (hint hint).  Well, nothing better to keep them on your mind than another Left Hand event in NYC!  Head out to the BK Growler Mecca at Bierkraft this Thursday and have a few pints of Left Hands best offerings.   Just to let you know - this years Fade to Black is a smoked Baltic porter.  Holler.

Bierkraft is located at 151 5th Avenue between Sackett and Union Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Saturday, February 19 - Left Hand Brewery Tasting Event @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn:

Are you seeing double?  Well that depends how many craft brews have you had before you started reading this?  In reality though you are not.  Two Left Hand events in 3 days is a reality.  And we're excited.  Head over to GRAB Specialty Foods for the next installment of their Saturday brewery tastings.  Left Hand will be heading straight from Bierkraft over to GRAB with their finest brews for you to continue tasting.  And oh will you continue tasting them.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

New York City Good Beer Month Events: Week of July 19th

Graham

Woah! Another craft brew filled week during Good Beer Month here in New York City...and this month is jam packed with events!  Let's check a few out.

Tues, July 20 - Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan: Our favorite Empire State Building beer bar will be featuring Southern Tier Tuesday night.   I am a big fan of the imperal ales from this brewery, I am specifically looking forward to the Oak Aged Unearthy and the Farmers Tan Imperial Pale Lager. Then I'll move to Phin & Matts Extraordinary Ale for something a little lighter...

Tues, July 20 - Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan: Every Tuesday this East Village basement cavern of craft brew holds $10 beer tastings with brewing experts.  This Tuesday will feature American made German style beer led by Sean from Victory Brewery.  Sean and the guys at Victory are just coming off a successful event over at Blind Tiger last Wednesday night.  Apparently they just decided to keep it rolling.  We're okay with that.

Weds, July 21 - Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan: Merry Christmas!  In July!  Christmas in July, originally dreamt up by department stores to have an excuse to sell clothes has been commandeered by the craft beer world to provide us with a much needed excuse to consume the winter/holiday ales that we've been "aging" for the past six months.  Well, those long, dark six months are over and it's time to celebrate.  Blind Tiger will be featuring a multitude of winter and holiday brews to celebrate July's only real notable holiday.  Although, there use to be something that happened on the 4th...

Thurs, July 22 - Swift, Manhattan: Come celebrate Belgian Independence Day with a special pour of Ommegang's Zur, their new sour beer.    They also are promising some other hard-to-find treats

Thurs, July 22 - Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan: These guys are busy this week.  On Thursday they are bringing us the Slow Food Oyster Festival with the help of local oyster grower Karen Rivera and Southhampton Brewing Co., which will be pouring all night with those oysters you're shooting.

Thurs, July 22 -Standings, Manhattan: Bear Republic has been a NYC Good Beer Month favorite, as well as a Beer Friends favorite recently and they are back again!  Standings will be featuring four of their brews this Thursday.  Which ones will they be!?! Racer #5? Red Rocket? Crazy Ivan??  Only way to find out it to show up and have all four!

Thurs, July 22 - The Gate, Brooklyn: Head on over to this Park Slope craft brew location to try a featured selection of Smuttynose Brewery's finest.

This is a jam-packed Good Beer Month week.  The Beer Friends will be out attending as many events as possible, maybe even all of them?  Keep following our twitter and facebook feeds to see what we're up to, what we're drinking and where you can be the first to find us an grab a free pint!

New York City Good Beer Month: Events for Week of 7/12

Graham

Hello Beer Friends!

The first week of New York City Good Beer Month was a resounding success with the 'Cool Sh#t Event' at Rattle n' Hum, the Bear Republic 'Sour Patch' Event at Bar Great Harry and Magic Hat Brew Night at Standings.  And we heard that Sixpoint Craft Ales were pouring like waterfalls over at Meatopia on Governors Island Sunday.

Let's look forward to another great week, as usual you will be able to catch The Beer Friends at most of these events.

July 13 - Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan: Pretty Things Brewery event!  The self-proclaimed gypsy brewery, Pretty Things, is most notable for their cute tap handles (seriously, craft beer chick's love the tap handles) and their Belgian influenced beers and ales.  Rattle n' Hum will be featuring some of our Pretty Things favorites, might we even see the appearance of the 22 oz.  London Mild Ale historical recreation?  One could only hope...

July 13 - Burp Castle, Manhattan: Starkbierzeit Festival!  The Starkbierzeit Festival, which tranlates to Strong Beer Festival, will be featuring several high profile and high intensity brews along with free Belgian fries (are there better fries then Belgian fries?).  But Shhhh!  Try to keep your excitement quiet while ordering, Burp Castle has a strict, low volume rule while on premise.  Sometimes though, it's better to sip on high octane brews in a low octane sort of way.

July 14 - Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan: I'm happy to announce that one of The Beer Friends favorite breweries will be having a brewery event at one of The Beer Friends favorite New York Beer Bars.  Head down to the West Village this Wednesday for the Victory Brewery Night at the Blind Tiger Ale House.  You will definitely find The Beer Friends at this one having a few of their favorite Victory Brews:  Prima Pils, Hop Devil IPA, Storm King Stout and hopefully a few other secret/rare releases.

There is another special event on Tuesday, July 13.  New York City Beer Month has its own Beer Sessions Radio hosted by Jimmy Carbone, co-founder of the Good Beer Seal and owner of Jimmy's No. 43 in the East Village.  This week they will be releasing, for the first time, a limited smoked beer brewed by Sixpoint Craft Ales specially for the New York City Good Beer Month.  It was poured for the first time at Meatopia and can only be found at certain Good Beer Seal bars.  This is truly a treasure that The Beer Friends will be hunting to find throughout the month.  Listen to the Beer Sessions Radio tomorrow @ 5 p.m. for where to catch it and follow The Beer Friends twitter/facebook feed to join the hunt with us.

As always, thanks to our New York Good Beer Month organizers over at the Good Beer Seal and our beloved Mayor Bloomberg.

Let's hope Good Beer Month stays for awhile.  See you at the bars!
