Tuesday, July 9 - Beer for Breakfast for Dinner @ The Double Windsor, Brooklyn: It is arguable that there is no better thing than waking up, making some eggs and then downing a few of your favorite craft brews.  Unfortunately, unless you're a teacher currently on summer vacation, drinking during breakfast is usually interfered with by that whole employment thing.  Unless you're willing to put your job in jeopardy then this Tuesday at the Double Windsor is probably your best best for breakfast and beer at the same time.

Do pancakes, coffee, bacon and orang juice sound good for breakfast?  Well, they got that covered:

Kuhnhenn Blueberry Pancake Ale

Founders Breakfast Stout

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock

Against the Grain Citra Ass Down IPA

On top of that, their kitchen will be serving a special breakfast sandwich for the night alongside those nostalgia inducing tiny boxes of your favorite cereal.  Finally, kegs and eggs at an hour that the rest of society finds reasonable.

The Double Windsor is located at 210 Prospect Park West on the northwest corner of 16th Street in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Tuesday, July 9 - Annual IPA Event @ Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

This time of year, in the hot summer sun with the humidity skyrocketing and sweat plastering everything you wear there is only one thing that comes to mind to beat the heat:  AC? Nah.  Ice cold glass of water: Nope.  Dozens of hop loaded beers on draught?  Oh yea.

Head on over to the Spring Lounge in NoLita for their Annual IPA Event for quite the impressive IPA list.  Check it out:

Draught Line-Up: Founders Devil Dancer, Avery The Maharaja, Peekskill Lower Standard, Green Flash Hop Odyssey Citra, Firestone Walker Wookey Jack, Victory Hop Devil Nitro, Ommegang Barrier Relief, Flying Dog Pumpernickel IPA, Empire IPA, Troegs Nugget Nectar

Bottles & Cans: Evil Twin Femme Fatale Blanc, Brasserie d’Achouffe Houblon Chouffe, Blue Point White IPA, Avery IPA

Hops are nature's air conditioner said somebody once.

The Spring Lounge is located at 48 Spring Street on the southwest corner of Mulberry Street in the NoLita neighborhood of Manhattan.

Thursday, July 11 - Peak Organic "Summer Session" Draft Party @Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Maine's Peak Organic Brewery has been brewing local-sourced and sustainable ingredient beer since 2005 and we are lucky enough to get to drink all of their offerings this Thursday at Bierkraft.  They'll be celebrating Peak's Summer Session brew - an easy drinking, low ABV summer beer perfect for any hot day where many refreshments are required to keep one cool.  In addition to Summer Session they'll also be pouring many of Peak's other offerings:

Weisse Principal Espresso Amber Pomegranate Wheat Hop Noir Black IPA IPA Pale Ale Nut Brown

Wait on ordering the Espresso Amber until your body becomes more acclimated to the AC.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Union and Berkeley Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Thursday, July 11 - Peekskill Brewery Night @ Alewife NYC, Queens:

As a native New York Upstater I love hearing about a new brewery successfully marketing their beer all over the state - especially when it shows up down here in NYC.  Peekskill Brewery is doing just that.  Located on the picturesque Peekskill bay on the Hudson River it represents the true essence of NYS brewing.  Alewife NYC will be throwing a huge bash in their honor and having been one of the first New York bars to pour Peekskill brews from the outset they have earned the right.  Brewmaster Jeff O'Neill and his brew crew will be on hand to walk you through an intriguing, delicious sounding menu:

Midnight Toker – Black IPA

Shotgun Willy – Rye IPA

Higher Standard –  Triple IPA

Eastern Standard – IPA

Lower Standard – Half-IPA.

Amazeballs – Single Hop American Pale Ale

New Wagon – Strong Ale

Simple Sour – Sour Ale

Hop Common – Unfiltered Amber

Skills Pils – Pilsner

Share The Rainbow – Belgian-Style White Beer

If this doesn't convince you to head to Queens Thursday then maybe this in-depth description of each brew will - it definitely worked on me.

Alewife NYC is located at 5-14 51st Avenue between 5th Street and Vernon Boulevard in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens.

Tuesday, October 25 - Southern Tier Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan: Here's an event you won't want to miss:  Southern Tier's first brewery event at the Pony Bar.  They'll be bringing the best, the biggest and the rarest of their brews.  We're talking hoppy oak age Imperial IPA's, Phin and Matt's Extraordinary Ale and some high alcohol, rare bottles that will be mysteriously popping up around the bar.  If you're lucky one might pop up next to you.

The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avenue on the Northwest Corner of West 45th Street, Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan.

Tuesday, October 25 - Tuesday Night Tasting with Empire Brewery @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Now here's an interesting beer story - breweries that start in large cities usually export their production to smaller towns in the region in order to produce enough volume to satisfy consumers while not having to pay the immense inner-city rents - Brooklyn Brewery, Sam Adams and Harpoon all have done this among countless other craft brewers.  Empire is a bit different - started in Syracuse, New York way way back, got pretty popular in the region and then opened a second brewery in order to keep up - in Brooklyn.

Both the Syracuse brewery and the Brooklyn based brewery will be helping to support their more popular offerings, while at the same time focusing on their own featured brews.  Assistant brewer Olivia Cerio and brand manager Gabe Barry will be leading the tastings and will feature beers made exclusively at both breweries.  The pours listed so far are - Amber Ale, IPA, Pumpkin, Hefe and Hop Harvest.  Tuesday night tastings are free - but Bierkraft isn't too big - so get there early.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Wednesday, October 26 - Beers of San Diego! @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:

This Beer Friend has some fond memories of San Diego Breweries after the Southern California Brewery tour stopped there in July.  Now he gets to relive them at the Stag's Head = less palm trees and perfectly sunny weather, but the same great beer.  I'll take that.

Mission Brewery will be on hand alongside Ballast Point, Stone Brewing and Green Flash Brewing.  If San Diego had a brewing all-star team, this would be it.

The Stag's Head is located at 252 East 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, Upper East Side, Manhattan.

Thursday, October 27 - I Love New York Beer Month - A Tale of Two Forks @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

October at the Spring Lounge is a special time.  Especially for us Empire Staters. For the entire month they've turned over their taps and bottles to the famous craft breweries located here in New York.  As sort of a finale they'll be showcasing two of Long Islands best breweries, Greenport Harbor and Southampton, in an event titled "Strong Ryeland" - which features a rye brew of epic proportions of the same name.  Think of a rye based ESB with, and I quote the Spring Lounge - "enough hops to make your toes tingle."

The Spring Lounge is located at 48 Spring Street on the Corner of Mulberry Street, NoLita, Manahttan.

New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of April 17

Graham

Hello all you Beer Friends out there!  I'm sure by now you have all heard that Nebraska Brunette Nut Brown is the 2011 Beer Friends Final Four Champion! Congratulations Nebraska!  It was an amazing tournament this year but if you're anything like me then you've been wandering around aimlessly, trying to find something to fill the void now that it's over.  I have just the thing for you:  Sours, Kegs n Eggs, Evil Twins, Breakfast Stouts from Kentucky and a Cask Beer Festival in Brooklyn. I think that should do the trick...

Tuesday, April 19 - $10 Tuesday Tastings 'April Sours' @ Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan:

April Sours bring May Flowers?  I think so, but you won't have to wait until may to get those flowers.  Jimmy's No. 43 is offering a selection of sours to sample this Tuesday night as part of their weekly $10 Tuesday Tastings series.  Sours are a very intriguing beer to sample, so there will also be beer experts on hand to walk you through their brewing process and what to look for while drinking them.  Also, how to properly conceal the pucker your face is trying to make so you don't look like a beer wuss in front of all your friends.

Jimmy's No. 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street (downstairs) between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, East Village, Manhattan.

Tuesday, April 19 - Kegs and Eggs with Smuttynose/Lagunitas @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

Are you looking for something to do Tuesday morning? Say around 8 AM-ish?  Well it's Spring Break and if you're like any adult who's been working for this long it doesn't matter if it's vacation, you're still up at the crack of dawn because the 'man' now has your lazy soul.  Well, sleeping late may be a forgotten experience, but you can still stick it to the man by waking up and mixing your scrambled egg's with some craft beer at the Spring Lounge in NoLita.

Smuttynose and Lagunitas are teaming up to bring you breakfast with a craft beer bang.  Expect eggs, potatoes, bacon, biscuits, gravy and $1 off any Lagunitas or Smuttynose draughts!  The list is TBA at the moment, but we all know that any Lagunitas and Smuttynose brew pairs deliciously with breakfast.  Don't try to hide it.

See you before work at the Spring Lounge, located at 48 Spring Street on the SW corner of Mulberry, NoLita, Manhattan.

Wednesday, April 20 - Weyerbacher Night @ Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan:

Weyerbacher is one of those breweries that when you hear their name you're think:  I love those guys! - Almost immediately.  It might take you a minute or two to remember what brews back up those emotions, but it doesn't matter.  Weyerbacher = Awesome.  It's in the dictionary. That's what kind of a staple they are in the craft beer world.  They are also headed to Rattle n' Hum on Wednesday with a booming list of reasons why the name Weyerbacher is synonymous with American craft beer.  Check it out:

On cask: Double Simcoe Hops Infusion Quad Old Heathen Verboten (BPA, not available in NY) Papa (Brewers select series, style TBA)

On tap: Blithering Idiot Merry Monks Quad Insanity Heresy Double Simcoe Hops Infusion Slam Dunkel Lima Tiny Tiny 12 13 14 15 Old Heathen IPA project 1 Quatro Crazy Fireside Pumpkin Blanche

Boom goes the Weyerbacher.

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between 5th and Madison Avenues, Midtown, Manhattan.

Wednesday, April 20 - Evil Twin and Boulder Brewery Night @ Rattle n' Hum:

Every person has an Evil Twin somewhere out there.  The Beer Friends have The Wine Friends, Rattle n' Hum has Off the Wagon, Paul (of the Beer Friends) actually has something like 12 evil twins (seriously, he's set a world record for dopplegangers) and Boulder Brewery has...the Evil Twin Brewery from Denmark.

Not really.  Boulder Brewery, a famed American craft brewery, is helping to welcome Evil Twin to the United States as they tour our great land sharing their best Danish craft beer.  I'm sure it won't taste very evil.  Check out the line-up for both breweries below:

Evil Twin Brews: Before, During, & After Xmas – 8% - Double IPA Soft DK (Soft Dookie) – 10% Imperial Vanilla Stout Disco Beer – 10.5% Imperial IPA/Chardonnay blend Yin – 10% Imperial Stout Yang – 10% Imperial IPA

It's suggested you make a pretty badass Black & Tan out of the Yin & Yang.

The EXTREMELY Impressive Boulder Beer List:

Hazed and Infused, Mojo, Sweaty Betty, Buffalo Gold, Planet Porter, Singletrack, Flashback India Brown Ale, 2010 Killer Penguin, Mojo Risin', Nitro Obovoid, Never Summer, 2010 Obovoid, Oak Aged American Red, Chocolate Porter, Nitro Mojo Risin' and 2009 Killer Penguin and Apricot Mojo.

Still not impressed?  Let's age some of those in Bourbon Barrel's for ya':

Bourbon Barrel Aged - Singletrack, Vanilla Porter, Obovoid, Never Summer and Spiced Never Summer.

If you still aren't impressed then just don't show up.  Stay home actually.  Forget about craft beer and start drinking more water.

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between 5th and Madison Avenues, Midtown, Manhattan.

Thursday, April 21 - Founders Beer Festival @ Standings, Manhattan:

Founders Brewery has quickly become one of the most sought after craft breweries in America.  They've done this by producing creative, quality and over-the-top flavorful brews that are also extremely drinkable.  Some of their most famous and desired brews will be pouring this Thursday at Standings (right above Jimmy's No. 43) in the East Village.

Founders Draft List:

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (yes, it's true, it will really be there!), Red's Rye Pale Ale, Pale Ale, Cerise, Double Trouble Imperial IPA.

And as usual, FREE pizza at 8 pm.

Standings is located at 43 East 7th Street (upstairs) between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, East Village, Manhattan.

Friday, April 22 - Sunday, April 24 - 5th Annual Williamsburg Cask Festival @ dba Brooklyn, Brooklyn:

dba Brooklyn alongside NYC craft beer guru Alex Hall of Gotham-Imbiber are hosting the 5th Annual Williamsburg Cask Beer festival this year is promising to be better than ever.  They are keeping the draft list secret for now but the Beer Friends will be working hard to bring you some top secret info, or at least spawn some great rumors about what will be pouring.

Here's what we do know:

- 16-18 rare and delicious casks tapped simultaneously.

Sounds pretty enticing to me.

dba Brooklyn is located at 113 North 7th Street between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Saturday, April 23 - Troeg's Can Only Give You Everything @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn:

We're resurrecting an old favorite of the Beer Friends here - the Saturday Tasting Series at GRAB Specialty Foods in Brooklyn.  This week they'll be featuring Troeg's Brewery out of Pennsylvania who promises to be bringing you everything they've got.  Expect free tastes of Troegenator, Sunshine Pils, Hopback Amber and Java Head Stout.

While you're there hit up the GRAB Specialty Foods Beer Store with your growler in hand and bring home a growler from one of their 10 draft lines.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

NYC Craft Beer Events - Week of 10/10 - 10/16

Graham

Hey all you Beer Friends out there!  Let's see what's happening beer wise in this great metropolis of ours throughout this upcoming week.

Monday, October 11 - Troeg's Tasting Event @ Amity Hall, Manhattan: Amity Hall is the place you go to when your nosing around Washington Square Park with your friends that are visiting the city and wanted to see Washington Square Park and then want beer.  You know it's there, you might not head to an NYU neighborhood regularly, but today you know that you will not take your friends to a light beer bar on Bleecker, but you will take them to a good craft beer bar on West 3rd.  If all this happens to be happening tonight, Monday, October 11, then you will be in for a treat:  Troeg's Tasting Event.  Troeg's is a fantastic brewery from outside of Philadelphia.  So after your friends have taken their respective pictures in front of the newly aligned fountain in Washington Square, bring them to Amity Hall, head upstairs and drink Troeg's. They'll thank you for saving them from tourist dogma.

Tuesday, October 12 - I Love NY Beer Week: Captain Lawrence Night @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan: The Spring Lounge is a great beer bar that borders the entrance to Little Italy, a.k.a. many New Yorkers Tourist Nightmare (seems to be a theme today actually).  However, you are not in Little Italy, nobody is throwing pasta at you and I promise you only have to choose 3 different flavors of gelato if you want to.  The Spring Lounge is spending the week appreciating New York Breweries, from all over the state, starting with Captain Lawrence out of Kingston, NY.  Come on by and grab some Westchester Pale Ale, Brown Bird Brown and Liquid Gold.  And if you want, you can head over to Little Italy and get some gelato on your way out.  You can even choose 3 flavors for the same price.  If you want to.

Wednesday, October 13 - Octoberfest Event @ Standings, Manhattan:  Do you like sports? (YES!)  Do you like bratwurst? (YES!)  Do you like American styled Octoberfest beer?  (YEEEESSSSSS!).  Well, then you should come down to Standings for their Octoberfest celebration on Wednesday.  One of the best craft beer/sports bars in the East Village will be celebrating Octoberfest by featuring 3-5 draughts of American style Octoberfest brews and serving up Bratwursts...for free.  In fact, out of sports, bratwursts and beer...2 out of 3 are free.  That's an Craft Beer Divisional Series win for free stuff.

Wednesday, October 13 - Lagunitas Night @ Amity Hall, Manhattan: Amity Hall is poppin up again in this week's beer events with a night dedicated to Lagunitas Brewery out of Petaluma, Cali, Cali.  Lagunitas, to me at least, is a hidden gem.  Their IPA is popular to the masses, even here in NYC, but with Lagunitas you really have to dig deep to find some truly exceptional beers such as Uncensored, the Little Sumpin' Sumpin', Brown Sugga, Hop Stoopid and Maximus IPA.  Often overlooked, Lagunitas should never be underestimated.  If you think have some re-estimating to do then head on over to Amity Hall and re-estimate the night away.

Thursday, October 14 - I Love NY Week:  Brooklyn Brewery Event @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan: Hey Brooklyn Brewery!  Dare we say The Beer Friends favorite NY Brewery?  Dare we might!  They'll be visiting the Spring Lounge this coming Thursday with a great selection of their most popular and rare pours.  Garrett doesn't expect you to head into Little Italy before/after this one, however we know that at this point the gelato desire is actually becoming unbearable.  Here's what we suggest: This years Black Chocolate Stout will premiere at this even, it is better than any gelato you will eat, ever.  Have 3.  And some Detonation.  You can't go wrong with this advice.

Thursday, October 14 - Southern Tier Night @ Dive 75, Manhattan: What we're about to tell you might feel strange to the ears of anyone who lives south of 59th street:  You need to get off  your midtown/downtown ass and explore the beer bars of Uptown Manhattan!  Dive 75 at Columbus and 75th street is a for-real beer bar.  They will be featuring Southern Tier (the Beer Friends 2nd favorite NY brewerey?) this Thursday.  Expect many favorites from the Rattle n' Hum event to be reappearing here.  And seriously, subways go uptown too.  They don't all terminate at 59th street.  The beer flows just as good up there too!

Saturday, October 16 - I Love NY Beer Week: Southampton Brewery Night @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan: One more time!  And we promise not to make fun of Little Italy during this post.  However, we do promise to instruct you to head to the Spring Lounge for at least one of these events.  Really, it's an east village dive bar with quite a bit of atmosphere right on the boundaries of one of the city's most famous neighborhoods.  You can't get more perfect than this.  Head to the back room with a pint and a friend, or two, get a seat by the open air windows and enjoy a crisp fall evening with a Southampton Altbier, Double White or IPA.  Seriously, there's a playground across the street where little village munchkins who will grow up having that NYC lifestyle ingrained in their bones play their NYC hearts out.  What more of an NYC scene could you ask for?  Especially while drinking beer from inside of a dimly lit dive bar?

Enjoy the turning of the leaves this week all you Beer Friends out there!  Fall is here in full swing and the beer is dark, pumpkiny and fall spiced.  Let us know what you're drinking by tweeting us @TheBeerFriends and writing on out Facebook wall at TheBeerFriends.  Hope to see you out this week!

TheBeerFriends Trivia Question (post your response in the comment section, if you're the first correct answer we'll buy you a beer at the bar of your choosing - hint: you can find any of the answers in old articles on http://thebeerfriends.com):  What craft brewery event at which NYC craft beer bar did Graham, Phil and Brad shoot whole families worth of raw oysters?  Literally, we destroyed whole generations of oyster existence here.
