Hashtag Battles Season 2 - Week 10!

Hello Beer Friends Nation! Week Ten -  New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks (#riverhorsebeer vs #redhookbeer)

Hashtag Battles goes coast to coast as a AFC East media darling meets a NFC West media darling.  The Jets make headline not for their play, but for their refusal to play certain "savior like" backup QB's.  The Seahawks make headlines for their play, which is as inconsistant as a meteorologist these days. As the second half of the hashtag battle season begins - let's see who'll be making headlines for the right reasons in the second half!

In the spirit of competition, Beer Friends would like to invite everyone to our second season of NFL hashtag battles! Using, we will pit two breweries against each other when their NFL counterparts are facing off on the gridiron. Are you ready for some football? And drinking? And #hashtag battle?!?!?!

What's a hashtag battle? When you're drinking a beer of a brewery competing in the battle, throw a #hashtag of the brewery and tweet it (or setup your foursquare or untappd to push to tweet and include the #hashtag) and we'll use to declare a winner after the Monday Night football game on ESPN. Support your team, support your beer, drink local and hashtag battle!

Week Ten -  New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks (#riverhorsebeer vs #redhookbeer)

As an emerging media outlet, we at The Beer Friends feel the need to talk about the Jets.  Even in the wake of a Hurricane up the East Coast and a hotly contested Presidential election, Rex Ryan is still getting airtime, defending himself as "The Most Overrated Coach" in a Sporting News poll.  However, instead of enlisting Karl Rove, Rex laughed off the criticism and went back to what he does best: avoiding Tim Tebow playing time questions.  The Jets are 3-5 and 3rd in the AFC East.  With the Pats safe at the top and the Dolphins surging, the Jets need to win and get a little help.  What they don't need is Cromartie claiming the Jets will make the playoffs - but this team has gotten hot before and (technically) Sanchez has led them to AFC Championship games before.  With the second half of the season starting, the Jets need a hot streak and with games against a few contenders (Seattle, New England, San Diego) and a few that are watching college football for future teammates (Jacksonville, Tennessee, Buffalo) we'll see if they can put up or shut up - but who are we kidding?  We know they'll never do the latter.

River Horse Brewing Company is from Lambertville, New Jersey...which is about the same distance to Met Life as NYC, so they jump into the mix!  River Horse is also a delicious brewery that has gotten the Beer Friends' attention more than once in these 2.5 years of reviews.  Although this is a Belgian influenced brewery, even Phil tends to enjoy these brews.  With a hippo on the label and big flavor inside, Hop-O-Lot-Amus 2xIPA and Hop Hazard are available year round and Hipp-O-Lantern and Belgian Freeze are seasonals worth waiting for.

The last time we saw the Seattle Seahawks on hashtag battles, they fought against the Detroit Lions in a close 28-24 match.  That was the Seahawks' first loss outside their division... and they are 5-4.  This is not shaping up well for the end of the year come playoff time if tiebreakers are needed for the Seahawks.  Currently, they are 2nd in the NFC West but 0-3 in the division - but the good news is it's the second half.  And the bad news? They could go 0-6.  However, that drama will have to play out way down the line as the Seahawks finish their divisional schedule in the last month of the season.  Currently, the Seahawks have two corners that talk big and play bigger.  These corners are a huge reason (along with a relentless pass rush) that the Seahawks are ranked 7th in Pass Defense - which only improves the play of the offense in practice, although with the bombs that R Wilson throws, I'd imagine 7 on 7 drills look more like games of 500.

Redhook Brewery comes from Washington but covers the East Coast with a brewery in Portsmouth, NH. They have traditional styles like a ESB, Wit, Pilsner, and Longhammer IPA - but the flavors are anything but traditional. On-air, the IPA has been described as having an "ice tea airiness" and behind the scenes, the Wit has been called delicious. With an innovative bottle design that jumps off the shelves, expect more on-air reviews and behind the scenes drinking.

Let the battle begin! Tag with #riverhorsebeer or #redhookbeer, the battle begins Sunday morning and ends Monday night… drink to support your teams!

Beer Review 130: Sixpoint Brownstone

Hello Beer Friends Nation! For those of "The Beer Friend Nation" that is in the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy, we wish you safety and health in the days ahead, hopefully our stupid little blog can provide a few laughs in the process.

Today we review a brewery affected by Sandy, Sixpoint Craft Ales.  We've review everything we could get our hands on from Sixpoint, whether from Growlers, Cans or Live Blogs - and today we expand the can reviews with Brownstone, a true Brooklyn beer.  Brownstone is a Brown Ale named for the famous Brownstone's that line many Brooklyn streets.  Sixpoint Craft Ale's website calls it their "fortress" which I can only assume (and believe I heard somewhere) that this is their first brew... and if it is they knew what they were doing from the beginning.

To help and donate to relief efforts of Hurricane Sandy please visit the Red Cross website.

Beer Review 123: Sixpoint Apollo

Hello Beer Friends Nation! This weeks SPotW is part of the seasonal series from Sixpoint Craft Ales in Redhook, Brooklyn.  It's no secret that the Beer Friends love Sixpoint and love what they are doing with their cans.  The art, the size (tallboys) and the quality is a great look in to a craft brewery growing and improving their brand daily.  In honor of the recent Olympics - SPOILER ALERT:  This is a Bavarian style wheat beer with Belgian roots - guess who's gonna hate it? Sixpoint! Nanokegs! Sun God!

Beer Review 106: Sixpoint Resin

Hello Beer Friend Nation! In the Beer Friends constant effort to drink everything Sixpoint produces - we occasionally video tape ourselves doing it.  This week we tried the very sought after Resin, a Double IPA that was just announced as a year round brew from Sixpoint.  Sixpoint has always been known for doing killer stuff on draft and last year they started selling their stuff in Nanokegs.  This turned back the clock for the Beer Friends  and every new can or design was like diving into a new pack of baseball cards.  Be sure to check out our other Sixpoint reviews below the video.  Sixpoint! Double/Imperial! #Nanokegs!

Beer Review 100: Sixpoint Diesel

Hello Beer Friends Nation! "I'd like to thank my friends and family, those that supported me in low times, thank you Gigi, my little girls watching at home and most of all the academy, thank you!"  It needs a little work, but we had barely any time to work on it (or about 100 weeks...)  We made it.  100 reviews.  100 videos of a "bunch of boring dudes drinking beer on camera."  This week we return to one of our favorite breweries - Sixpoint from Redhook, Brooklyn.  The Beer Friends have always been huge fans of Sixpoint and it was like Christmas when we could get their stuff in cans.  We quickly ran out and reviewed our favorites, our new favorites, newer beers to Sixpoint, old standby's, and their first seasonal.  Now this Black IPA/Stout mix - Diesel comes along and confuses some people on it's exact style and admittingly the Beer Friends were confused as well - until we went to the source and sought out the truth.  Thanks to all the viewers out there who caught us for the first 100, and keep watching for the second 100!

Beer Review 86: Sixpoint Autumnation

Hello Beer Friends Nation! Well we reviewed the original Sixpoint four (Bengali Tiger, Righteous Rye, Crisp, Sweet Action) and now we move to the seasonals.  First up is Autumnation, a wet-hopped pumpkin spiced ale.  We cannot confirm if this uses a similar recipe as last years pumpkin ale from Sixpoint Pumpkin Brewster (best name ever) but we can confirm that they brew with hops, a lot of them.  Grab a can and check it out for yourself!  Sixpoint!  Five Cans!  Pumpkin!

Beer Review 72: Sixpoint The Crisp

Hello Beer Friends Nation! Full disclosure - the Beer Friends like beer, a lot, and we like good beer, a lot, and when one of our favorite breweries releases their stuff in cans, we are thrilled.  We ran around trying to find them and now that all four are released - we can complete the four-some, wait... that came out wrong.  Anyway, here is part three in our series - The Crisp from Sixpoint.  Beer!  Four-packs! Take Home deliciousness!

Beer Review 68: Sixpoint Sweet Action

Hello Beer Friends Nation! This week we return to the very new, very happening Sixpoint in four pack cans!  In the second part of our 4 part series we try Sweet Action, Sixpoint's flagship beer.  After two weeks of having Sixpoint nanokegs (their definition - we're not smart/funny enough to come up with that) in our fridge - we are finally over the novelty (not really) of it and can make a honest review (yeah right!).  Tallboys!  Series of beer drinking!  Redhook!

Beer Review 39: Sixpoint Bengali Tiger

Hello Beer Friends Nation! This week is a special beer review - it's a growler!  This week we travel to the mysterious Redhook , Brooklyn to try Sixpoint Brewery. Now it is no secret to faithful Beer Friend followers (thanks Mom!) that the Beer Friends love Sxipoint brews, so this one is a gimme. The SPotW is Bengali Tiger, the readily available I.P.A. from Sixpoint. Check it out at the special Sixpoint Brewery event at The Pony Bar on Tuesday, November 16th! Brooklyn Beer!
