New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of July 7, 2013

Graham

Tuesday, July 9 - Beer for Breakfast for Dinner @ The Double Windsor, Brooklyn: It is arguable that there is no better thing than waking up, making some eggs and then downing a few of your favorite craft brews.  Unfortunately, unless you're a teacher currently on summer vacation, drinking during breakfast is usually interfered with by that whole employment thing.  Unless you're willing to put your job in jeopardy then this Tuesday at the Double Windsor is probably your best best for breakfast and beer at the same time.

Do pancakes, coffee, bacon and orang juice sound good for breakfast?  Well, they got that covered:

Kuhnhenn Blueberry Pancake Ale

Founders Breakfast Stout

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock

Against the Grain Citra Ass Down IPA

On top of that, their kitchen will be serving a special breakfast sandwich for the night alongside those nostalgia inducing tiny boxes of your favorite cereal.  Finally, kegs and eggs at an hour that the rest of society finds reasonable.

The Double Windsor is located at 210 Prospect Park West on the northwest corner of 16th Street in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Tuesday, July 9 - Annual IPA Event @ Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

This time of year, in the hot summer sun with the humidity skyrocketing and sweat plastering everything you wear there is only one thing that comes to mind to beat the heat:  AC? Nah.  Ice cold glass of water: Nope.  Dozens of hop loaded beers on draught?  Oh yea.

Head on over to the Spring Lounge in NoLita for their Annual IPA Event for quite the impressive IPA list.  Check it out:

Draught Line-Up: Founders Devil Dancer, Avery The Maharaja, Peekskill Lower Standard, Green Flash Hop Odyssey Citra, Firestone Walker Wookey Jack, Victory Hop Devil Nitro, Ommegang Barrier Relief, Flying Dog Pumpernickel IPA, Empire IPA, Troegs Nugget Nectar

Bottles & Cans: Evil Twin Femme Fatale Blanc, Brasserie d’Achouffe Houblon Chouffe, Blue Point White IPA, Avery IPA

Hops are nature's air conditioner said somebody once.

The Spring Lounge is located at 48 Spring Street on the southwest corner of Mulberry Street in the NoLita neighborhood of Manhattan.

Thursday, July 11 - Peak Organic "Summer Session" Draft Party @Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Maine's Peak Organic Brewery has been brewing local-sourced and sustainable ingredient beer since 2005 and we are lucky enough to get to drink all of their offerings this Thursday at Bierkraft.  They'll be celebrating Peak's Summer Session brew - an easy drinking, low ABV summer beer perfect for any hot day where many refreshments are required to keep one cool.  In addition to Summer Session they'll also be pouring many of Peak's other offerings:

Weisse Principal Espresso Amber Pomegranate Wheat Hop Noir Black IPA IPA Pale Ale Nut Brown

Wait on ordering the Espresso Amber until your body becomes more acclimated to the AC.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Union and Berkeley Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Thursday, July 11 - Peekskill Brewery Night @ Alewife NYC, Queens:

As a native New York Upstater I love hearing about a new brewery successfully marketing their beer all over the state - especially when it shows up down here in NYC.  Peekskill Brewery is doing just that.  Located on the picturesque Peekskill bay on the Hudson River it represents the true essence of NYS brewing.  Alewife NYC will be throwing a huge bash in their honor and having been one of the first New York bars to pour Peekskill brews from the outset they have earned the right.  Brewmaster Jeff O'Neill and his brew crew will be on hand to walk you through an intriguing, delicious sounding menu:

Midnight Toker – Black IPA

Shotgun Willy – Rye IPA

Higher Standard –  Triple IPA

Eastern Standard – IPA

Lower Standard – Half-IPA.

Amazeballs – Single Hop American Pale Ale

New Wagon – Strong Ale

Simple Sour – Sour Ale

Hop Common – Unfiltered Amber

Skills Pils – Pilsner

Share The Rainbow – Belgian-Style White Beer

If this doesn't convince you to head to Queens Thursday then maybe this in-depth description of each brew will - it definitely worked on me.

Alewife NYC is located at 5-14 51st Avenue between 5th Street and Vernon Boulevard in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens.

Tuesday, April 30 - Allagash Brewery @ Pony Bar UES, Manhattan: I have long had a love affair with American brewed Belgian beer that comes from Allagash.  For some reason it just speaks to my taste buds more than other American Belgian beer or that weird stuff that actually is brewed in Belgium.  Allagash just gets what true American styled Belgian beer should taste like.  Even Phil gets close to almost appreciating the flavors he finds disgusting in all Belgian beers - almost.  Now that's quality.  Dave Gonzalez from Allagash will be on hand with the usual good stuff and the rarest that Maine Belgian has to offer.

You might even see Phil there (ordering something else).

The Pony Bar UES is located at 1444 1st Avenue at 75th Street in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan.

Wednesday, May 1 - PA Brewery Night @ Sunswick 35/35, Queens:

Nothing like a trip to Queens to visit Pennsylvania.  Although the two places couldn't be more different, Sunswick 35/35 of Astoria will be paying tribute to all the wonderful brew PA has to offer.  Here's the list:

Penn Brewing - Dark, Kaiser, Pils, Weizen

Stoudt's Brewing - Double IPA, Fourplay IPA, Fat Dog Oatmeal Stout

Victory Brewing - Golden Monkey, Tripel, St. Victorious Dopplebock, Swing Spring Saison

Weyerbacher Brewing - Insanity Barrel Aged Barleywine, Last Chance IPA, Quad

Sunswick 35/35 is located at 3502 35th Street at 35th Avenue in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens.

Wednesday, May 1 - Animal, Mineral, Vegetable Night @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:

American craft beer is known for pushing the limit.  We make Pale Ale's that taste like IPA's, IPA's that taste like a punch in the face, Stouts that are brewed with chocolate and aged in bourbon barrels, barleywine's aged in wine casks - the list goes on and on.  The next logical step was to brew beer using food.  Any type of food.  Check out this list:

Ballast Point Indra Kundra - brewed with madras curry, coconut, kaffr lime, cumin and cayenne

Abita Oyster Stout- made with pounds and pounds of oyster shells

Ommegang's Iron Throne - brewed in honor of Game of Thrones brewed with grains of paradise and lemon peel

Elysian Malestrom - IPA brewed with blood orange

And as always, in good Stag's Head fashion, there will be some free snacks (in the form of strawberry and cucumber gazpacho).  All this starts at 6 pm.

The Stag's Head is located at 252 East 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan.

Thursday, May 2 - Oskar Blues Tap Night @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

One of the Beer Friends favorite breweries is stopping into Brooklyn's Bierkraft this Thursday to feature their classic and rare brews.  The draft list is TBA however you should expect it to be nice and fresh - Oskar Blues recently opened a satellite brewery in North Carolina in order to keep providing the East Coast with the finest quality brew possible.  Bring your growlers and enjoy!

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Saturday, May 4 - Abita Crawfish Boil @ The Sycamore, Brooklyn:

Head on down - head on way down - as if you were going all the way to the swamp in New Orleans, but really you're just going to the Sycamore in Brooklyn on the opposite side of Prospect Park.  It's still pretty far, but it's definitely worth it.  In honor of the last weekend of Jazz Fest they'll be throwing a good ol' fashion Bayou crawfish boil.  $25 gets you quite the large bucket of crawfish and a pint of seasonal Abita.  You can grab tickets at The Sycamore's website.

The Sycamore is located at 1118 Cortelyou Road between Westminster and Stratford Roads in the Ditmas Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Graham

We are all looking ahead to this Friday, when NYC Craft Beer Week officially kicks off at craft beer bars and restaurants across the 5 boroughs.  Check back here later this week for The Beer Friends top choices for NYCBW.  Here are a few events for the week to keep you occupied as you wait. Tuesday, February 19 - Tuesday Night Tastings: Cellar Raid @ Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan:

When it comes to Jimmy's No. 43, one of the oldest craft beer bars in NYC, the most coveted part of the bar is not what's coming out of the taps but what's beneath them:  the cellar beer.  They'll be breaking out some of their cellar favorites for your drinking desires tonight for a bit pricier than usual ($20) but well worth the cost.

Jimmy's No. 43 is located at downstairs 43 East 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

Wednesday, February 20 - Kelso, Empire and Single Cut at $10 Tasting @ Idle Hands Bar, Manhattan:

Idle Hands has had a special theme this month for their Wednesday night $10 Tasting events:  New York Breweries in anticipation of the upcoming NYC Beer Week (Feb 22).  This week they are featuring Kelso (of Brooklyn), Empire (of Syracuse) and Single Cut (of Queens).  You'll get 3 pours, one brew from each brewery, a whiskey/bourbon sampling, other beer samples, an order of tots and a special pairing of Jarlsberg Hickory Smoked Cheese and you get to do all this while hanging with brewers and representatives from each brewery and the damn fine gentlemen that run the bar.

Here are the brews:

Keslo Beer Co – Rauchbier Empire Brewing – Amber SingleCut Beer – Beer 18 Watt IPA

Idle Hands Bar is located at 25 Avenue B between 2nd and 3rd Streets in the Alphabet City neighborhood of Manhattan.

Thursday, February 21 - 8th Annual Sixpoint Tap Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Sixpoint has been taking over the taps at one of their favorite Brooklyn beer bars for 8 years and the folks at Bierkraft are thrilled to have them back.  They'll be tapping some of the usuals (Bengali, Sweet Action, Righteous), some rare (Mad Scientist and more) and new (3Bean!).  Head on over this Thursday to hang with the Sixpoint brewers and drink many of their delicious brews.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Tuesday, December 11 - Tuesday Night Tasting: Kelso Beer Company @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: Kelso is one of the unsung heroes of the NYC craft beer scene.  A Brooklyn based brewery that often gets overshadowed by Brooklyn's omnipresence and Sixpoint's artsy-edginess, Kelso still puts out a wide range of delicious craft brew.  Owner Kelly Taylor will be hosting a taking over tonight's Tuesday Night Tastings at Bierkraft and they'll be bringing an interesting selection that is sure to please.

Nut Brown Lager Winter Lager IPA Industrial Imperial IPA Rye-barrel-aged Tripel Fuku (a rauchbier/witbier/gose hybrid)

There will also be a special opening of the Bierkraft 10th Anniversary Maple-liquor-barrel-aged Imperial Stout.

How's that for overshadowed?

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Wednesday, December 12 - Stone Brewing Co. Vertical Epic - The Final Chapter 12.12.12 @ Alewife, Queens:

For the past 10 years Stone has created a brew ready to drink on the triple-repeated-date of that year (2/2/2 - 12/12/12).  Even though that brew could've been enjoyed anytime between then and now, they were specially developed to be aged and sipped gently (read: Devoured) on 12.12.12 - the last reincarnation of Vertical Epic until the next century (seriously, Wednesday is the last triple-repeated date until 2100 - time to celebrate!).  They'll be serving up every Vertical Epic since 2003 alongside Ruination IPA, Smoked Porter, and Imperial Russian Stout.

Can you drink all the Stone beer at this event?  It would be vertically epic.

Alewife is located 5-14 51st Avenue between 5th Street and  Vernon Boulevard in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens.

Wednesday, December 12 - Once In 100 Years Event @ Beer Boutique Inc., Brooklyn:

Thought we were done with triple repeating dates?  Not even close. Beer Boutique Inc. of Brooklyn wants to help you celebrate by providing you with access to some of the rarest, biggest Brooklyn brewery beers of this (and the last decade of the previous) century.

Vintage Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

The Companion
Brooklyn Blast
There Will BE Black
Beer Boutique Inc. is located at 497 Union Avenue between N 8th Street and Withers Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Thursday, December 13 - Christmas Bash @ Standings, Manhattan:
It's not quite Christmas yet.  For that you'll have to wait until this Thursday.  At Standings.  They'll be pouring three of the finest Christmas ales in the land for your  holiday cheering pleasure alongside free brat's from Wechsler's.
Brekcenridge Christmas
Defiant Christmas
Southern Tier 2X Christmas
PLUS: Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA on Cask
Nothing says happy holidays like beer and free brat's.
And afterwards you can head downstairs to Jimmy's No. 43 for their Barrier "Submersible" Belgian 1 event.
Standings is located at Upstairs 43 East 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan.
Thursday, December 13 - Thursday Tap: Barrier "Submersible" Belgian 1 @ Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan:
Jimmy's No. 43 has been close friends with Barrier brewing since they started brewing.  So, when Hurricane Sandy devastated their brewing processes, Jimmy's happened to have some of the last kegs on hand and in honor of helping them get back on their feet have been slipping them into rotation one-by-one.  This Thursday they'll be tapping the keg of their Submersible Belgian 1 - the brew in the fermenters at the time the storm hit - extra fermented by the hurricane.
This is a rare one, that you'll probably never see again.
And afterwards you can head upstairs and hit up Standings for their Christmas bash.
Jimmy's No. 43 is located at Downstairs 43 East 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

Tuesday, September 25 - Tuesday Night Tastings: Birrificio Bruton @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: Despite our intense love for all-American craft brewing, the Beer Friends have been known to get international.  One of our favorite  event nights of recent memory was at a beer event hosted by the Italian craft brewery Collesi.  Italian beers have always gotten a bad rap here in the US and in most other parts of the world - but as with food, wine and Roman pillars, Italians are master craftsmen when it comes to beer brewing.  Birrificio Bruton boasts a focus of balance with a dedication to food pairing as the central tenets of owner Lacopo Lenci's creation.  He'll be there to walk you through a new viewpoint of craft brewing: Italian culture, food and life all in beer.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Street in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Wednesday, September 26 - Oktoberfest Sampling/Beer Pairings @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:

Beer and food.  Beer and fall. Fall and food.  Can't go wrong with any of those combinations so why not go with all three.  Head on over to the Stag's Head this Wednesday for some very specific beer/food pairings all based on the fall tradition of Oktoberfest.  They'll be pairing a dish and beer together to ensure maximum deliciousness for your taste buds.  Here are the slices of fall foliage heaven that await your mouth:

The Stag's Head is located at 252 East 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan.

Wednesday, September 26 - Victory Night @ The Blind Tiger, Manhattan:

The craft beer world has grown large in recent years, so large in fact that once common meetings between beer bar owners/brewing innovators does not happen as often as it used to when the whole world was a bit smaller.  However , this does set the stage for more epic reunions now that the beer world has blossomed and exploded into it's current state of dominance.  Such a meeting of epic proportions will be occurring this Wednesday:  Bill Covaleski of Victory Brewing will be making his yearly trek to the Blind Tiger Ale House.

Think beer brewing god meets beer bar god and they're inviting you to their hangout AND they are pouring all the beer they brought for your enjoyment.  Plus, a first timer: Polaris IPA.  Made with the Polaris hops which are described as being minty and glacier-like by Dave Brodrick, Blind Tiger owner.

Check it:

Wednesday, September 26 - Three Heads Brewery Night @ George Keeley's, Manhattan:

Who says there isn't room for comedy in the craft beer world?  Nobody actually, I think we'd actually prefer it.  Especially when the brewing comedians come from this Beer Friend's home town.  Introduce: Three Heads Brewing from Rochester, NY.  They'll be bringing a few brews over to George Keeley's on the Upper West Side this Wednesday and boy are they funny.  Check out their website sometime and I guarantee you'll laugh at least once - and not at their web design!

They'll be bringing for your drinking pleasure...:

Bromingo Smoked Maple Amber Ale

The Kind IPA

Loopy

The Common Man

George Keeley's is located at 485 Amsterdam Avenue between 83rd and 84th Streets in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan.

Perfect for the autumn winds that cut right through you here in NYC and the rest of the northeast. Sunswick 35/35 in Queens will be throwing a bash honoring this special beer time of year by featuring Kelso brewery of Brooklyn and Ithaca brewery of upstate New York. The fall beer keeps on flowing just as the fall leaves will start raining from the trees - it must be the season. Hit up Bierkraft in Brooklyn for an Oktoberfest tasting. Oktoberfest brews are traditionally known as Marzen lagers, malty and crisp, same as the autumn air. Bierkraft's Chris Balla will teach you the ins and outs of the style, both the American versions and the tried and true European (read: German) brews. Tuesday Night Tastings are free but they get crowded so get there early.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Wednesday, September 19 - Sierra Nevada Event @ The Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan:

Sierra Nevada is an old American Craft Brewery. One of the first to reignite America's passion for hand crafted beer. It then makes perfect sense that they have such a diverse collection of offerings for you to enjoy and they'll be out in full force this Wednesday at the Blind Tiger. They'll even be serving up a selection from their homebrew camp and some aged old favorites. One of Manhattan's first craft beer bars combining forces with one of America's first craft beer revolutionaries, can't go wrong with that one.

New York Beer Events for the Week of August 20th - 25th

Brad

Hello Beer Friends Nation! We know why you've come here today, just sit back and let us plan your week of beer swigging events...

Monday August 20th -

Murray's Cheese is a locals favorite of most New Yorkers - legendary on Bleecker, I recently had a true New Yorker get so excited that "Murray's now sells beer!" As if the craft beer revolution was now official in his mind.  Well, those of us who've been following for quite some time welcome Murray's Cheese to the table and let's see what they got!  On Monday, August 20th, Murray's Cheese pairs with the Shelton Brothers to present "Belgian Beers and Cheese" - the problem is (with Murray's being new to the craft beer scene - we're very cheap) it's $75 to get in and availability is limited (10 seats for this class).

Murray's Cheese is located at 254 Bleecker St., New York, NY

Tuesday August 21st -

Who doesn't like a little competition?  If there is one thing New Yorkers do well is tell you how great New York is, and we love to prove it.  So head down to Mission Dolores for their NY vs CA Can Beer Night.  Representing CA are breweries such as: Bear Republic, Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, 21st Amendment, Stone, Lagunitas and Green Flash.  Representing NY are breweries such as: Southern Tier, Sixpoint, Kelso, Barrier, Empire, Brooklyn Brewery, and Captain Lawrence.  So make your list of great NY things, and stuff from California you can crap on - and head on down!

Mission Dolores is located at 249 4th Ave., Brooklyn, NY

Wednesday August 22nd -

The baseball season is winding down and most fans have realized whether or not they have a chance for the off-season.  This means that now baseball games actually start to mean something!  Standings is celebrating it by having a few baseball themed beers on tap including Green Monsta Ale from Wachusett Brewing Co. (it doesn't suck like the Sox this year...) and Summer Love from Victory (see the Sox comment and apply to Phillies).  Best thing about Standings? It's directly above Jimmy's No. 43 so make it a doubleheader!

Standings Bar is located at 43 East 7th St., New York, NY

If this doesn't sound interesting - check out Mad River Brewery at Blind Tiger.  Be sure to get there early, the event starts at 3pm and fills up quickly!

Blind Tiger is located at 281 Bleecker St., New York, NY

Thursday August 23rd -

Bierkraft is legendary in Craft Beer in New York City - so when they invite a "new comer" like Barrier it must be a big deal.  Well, that's partly true - Barrier Brewing Co. is a really big deal.  Barrier started just three years ago in a 1 barrel facility, yada yada yada... a few awards later they've expanded to a five barrel facility in Oceanside, NY.  If you see them around, try their stuff - if you haven't - get to Bierkraft on Thursday when Barrier takes over the taps.

Bierkraft is located at 191 Fifth Ave., Brooklyn, NY

Feel like playing some video games?  Check out the greatest idea for a bar since... well ever - at Barcade in Williamsburg.  Barcade has a excellent draft list (always) and this Thursday they invite Flying Dog from Maryland.  In addition to their great year round beers (Gonzo, Snake Bite IPA), the draft list looks very dangerous, so bring your wits and your quarters.

Barcade Brooklyn is located at 388 Union Ave., Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY

Friday August 24th -

It's Friday!  Find a Happy Hour and enjoy yourself!  Be sure to check in on untappd.com and follow us at @thebeerfriends, @beerfriendbrad, @beerfriendphil, @beerfriendpaul, and @beerfriendgrahm and let us know what you're drinking!

Tuesday, August 14 - Tuesday Night Tasting: Sierra Nevada Beer Camp @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn: Every craft beer lovers dream is to go to a summer camp for brewers and beer lovers alike.  Well, a little over a year ago the good brewers at Sierra Nevada made that possible - giving both professional brewers and homebrewers a chance to work together to create delicious new craft beer.  If you're lucky then you've stumbled upon a spot serving these camp brews.  If you haven't been lucky, then tonight is your night.  Head over to Bierkraft to have Brian from Sierra Nevada educate you on the program as well as tap four new offerings for your drinking pleasure.

Tuesday, August 14 - Belgian Beer Night @ Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan:

Don't get me wrong, I like Belgian beer.  This event, however, probably wouldn't have made the list this week though if it weren't for how passionate Phil is about this country's beer.  Phil's so passionate about it that you should check out our reviews of different Belgian style brews just to see his reactions.  Maybe you'll even catch Phil at Rattle n' Hum tonight as he samples all six (at least) of the Belgian brews they'll be pouring.

Thursday, August 16 - Pretty Things Meadowlark IPA Release @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

NEW BEER! 25 points if you can name the craft beer bar that popularized that one.  Well, we have a real new one for ya this time.  Pretty Things is releasing a new beer and style that is new two them.  Usually a brewer of Belgian and English styled brews, this one is inspired by a staple of most American craft brewers: the American IPA.  The Meadowlark IPA is heralded as being smooth, slightly bitter and layered with floral hops and it's coming at you for the first time ever this Thursday at Bierkraft.  Jim Barnes of Pretty Things will be there to lead you through the brew, share some other Pretty Things pours and of all things, spin some tunes.  There will also be bottles of Meadowlark to take home with you.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Tuesday, August 7 - Founders Brewery Night @ Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan: Last year Founders took the city by storm, this year they are an established leader in the craft beer world.  Just cause they're easier to find these days doesn't mean that we don't still seek them out in all corners of the world and  Rattle n' Hum is making it easy as pie to find them tonight.  Stop in for a Founders extravaganza.  Here's the list:

Founders Cenntenial Founders Porter Founders 111pa Founders CBS Founders KBS Founders Breakfast Stout Founders Cerise

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan.

Wednesday, August 8 - Allagash Brewing Night @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:

If you could mix Belgian beer and the good ol' American state of Maine you would inevitably get Allagash.  Brewing some of the best Belgian inspired beer this side of the pond, Allagash is a treat for both Belgian lovers and those of us that still find the style mysterious and elusive.  Get on over to Stag's Head on Wednesday to enjoy several pours from Allagash, snacks and rep Susan Greene as she talks up all things Allagash.  Check out the list:

Bourbon Barrel Aged Black Blonde Interlude HLT Saison Mihm

The Stag's Head is located at 252 East 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the Midtown East neighborhood of Manhattan.

Wednesday, August 8 - Green Flash Tap Takeover @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

If West Coast brewing is known for one thing it's their creative and generous use of hops in everything they do.  Green Flash embodies this tradition perfectly.  One of the best breweries in San Diego, the state of California and the nation as a whole they have continued to surprise and impress with their interpretations of various beer styles.  Bierkraft will be handing over the reigns to them on Wednesday and we couldn't be more excited and intrigued.

West Coast IPA Imperial IPA Hop Head Red Double Stout Porter Trippel Retro Extra Pale Ale 30th Street Pale Ale West Coast IPA (cask) Hop Head Red (cask)

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Union and Berkeley Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Thursday, August 9 - Green Flash! @ The Gate, Brooklyn:

Yes.  You did read that correctly.  There are two Green Flash events happening this week.  If you missed it (or didn't get your fill) of Green Flash at Bierkraft on Wednesday then head right down the street to the Gate on Thursday.  I don't want to say one event is better than another, but the Gate is boasting a very impressive selection, including some "can't get in NYC" and a firkin.  A firkin.

Tuesday, July 31 - $10 Tuesday Tastings: Cellar Reserve Selections @ Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan: There are certain cellars New Yorkers would love to get into: Museum of Natural History (dinosaur bones!), the Comedy Cellar (surprise Louis C.K. standup) and Jimmy's No. 43.  We can only imagine what their collection of cellar reserve bottles looks like.  Well, we don't have to imagine anymore.  Tuesday night they'll be featuring special selections from their cellar for your tasting pleasure.  Expect greatness.

Tuesday Tastings are only $10 and Jimmy's suggests that you get there early.

Jimmy's No. 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street, downstairs, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

Tuesday, July 31 - Tuesday Night Tastings: Sour Beers @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Sour beers elude even the best of us beer drinkers in the world.  Hard to find and, for some, even more difficult to develop a taste for, sour beers can be exceptionally flavorful and refreshing.  Matt Barclay, Bierkraft's cellar manager, will lead you through the tastes and brewing techniques of these mysterious brews.  As always, Tuesday Night Tastings are free and get busy, so head there a bit early for a couple pints before the night begins.

Pucker up.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Wednesday, August 1 - $10 Beer, Bourbon and Rock: Empire Brewing Company @ Idle Hands Bar, Manhattan:

Have we mentioned how much we love Empire Brewing Company?  If we haven't then you should join the Beer Friends at Idle Hands Bar (one of our other loves) this Wednesday where you can see it in action.  This beer and bourbon installment will feature Empire brews that one cannot acquire here in NYC and bourbon from Four Roses distillery.  When the forces behind the Empire Brewing Company and Idle Hands come together, you get a night that you won't forget.  Actually, some memories may become hazy.

Idle Hands Bar is located at 25 Avenue B, downstairs, between 2nd and 3rd Streets in the Alphabet City neighborhood of Manhattan.

Thursday, August 2 - So Long Stinky @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

We mentioned earlier that Matt Barclay, the cellar manager for Bierkraft, would be teaching you something fancy about sour beers on Tuesday night.  It will be a special one too, as this is Matt's last week at Bierkraft.  Tuesday, you'll learn from him.  Thursday, you'll celebrate his tenure and wish him good luck for the future - by drinking all sorts of rare, interesting and unique brews that he'll be bringing up from the cellar.  The list is hush-hush at the moment, with some wondering if even he knows, but it surely will be a potpourri of deliciousness.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Berkeley and Union Streets in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.
