BFF4: Round 4 (Elite 8)

Beerfriend Paul

It's Round 4 and we are down to the last match up in each bracket. With a spot in the Beer Friends Final 4 on the line, which beers will come out of this brutal round on top?

In the Green Bracket the 12 seed Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout comes into this round hot after beating perennial favorite Pliny the Younger.  It now gets a large test from another Bourbon barrel aged brew, Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout.  It has been no secret that barrel aged beers have been popular these past couple years and this tournament has been full of them.

The favorite from the Blue Bracket is the #1 seed and it's another from Founders.  Canadian Breakfast Stout goes up Deschutes Brewery The Abyss. Both of these Stouts big and sought after by beer lovers all over.  Can the maple syrup bourbon barrel aged CBS hold off the dark imperial stout with hints of molasses and licorice that is The Abyss?

The improbable Cigar City Bourbon Barrel Aged Hunhapu Imperial Stout has survived another round as a 16 seed.  Obviously feeling disrespected by such a low seed, the always great Cigar City has proven that they belong among the top breweries in the country according to the BFF4.  However, it may have met it's match finally with the second version of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout in this tournament.  This is a match up of the unstoppable force against the immovable object.  Neither of these beers have been able to be slowed down so far this tournament.  Which one of these will make it to Round 5.

The great Russian River Pliny the Elder comes into round 4 as one of the favorites to win the whole tournament.  It now has to go up against a ferocious opponent in the classic Founders Breakfast Stout.  Founders is trying to prove that this tournament isn't all about bourbon barrel aging while Russian River is fighting the good fight for all styles that are not stout.  Can the lone IPA get into the Beer Friend Final 4, or will the old favorite Breakfast Stout stand strong?
