New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of June 5, 2011

*********************** NEW ADDITION***********************

Tuesday, June 7 - Bluepoint Brewery Night @ The Pony Bar, Manhattan:

Patchogue, Long Island has long been known as Long Island's brewing capital, and for one reason:  Bluepoint Brewery.  The Toasted Lager has been a downstate New York tradition since the earlier part of the decade and they've only improved their brews since then.  The Pony Bar will be hosting the brewery and their beer expert Steve Bayconich who will be bringing some of Blue Point's rarest brews on Tuesday night.  The Beer Friends will be heading over after our weekly meeting and we hope to see you there!

The Pony Bar is located at 637 10th Avnue on the northwest corner of 45th street, Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan.

Tuesday, June 7 - The Big LeBrewski Beer Series Part 1 @ Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan:

I had to include this event in the newsletter just because of the name.  Hilarious.  And who doesn't love the Big Lebowski or anything in tribute to it.  Okay, it's not just the name.  Turns out the beer is pretty amazing too.  Check out the list:

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues.

Tuesday, June 7 - Summer Beer Tuesday @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:

Summer beers are strange.  I spend all year dismissing them.  Only for summer to return and I can't stop drinking them.  I forget all year long what a diverse field "Summer Beers" actually can be.  We're talking saisons, Belgians white's, tart and sour, name it.  In my opinion they all fall under this category as being "Summer Beers."  You can investigate these styles more at the Beirkraft this Tuesday.  They'll be giving free tastes of different summer styles all night long with Bierkraft's in-house beer expert, Dr. Carl Burger.  So sit back, where some shorts and sandals and enjoy summers offerings.

Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue between Union and Berkeley Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Wednesday, June 8 - Mikkeller Single Hop Exhibition @ The Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan:

Best job ever:  Beer Scientist.  Or what we usually refer to as a Brewer.  Seriously though, what an excellent job.  Tinkering with beer, changing up the hops, malts, yeasts to reach ultimate perfection, strange concoctions and mouthwatering creativity.  Mad Dane, the legend behind Belgium's Mikkeller Brewery, is a true beer scientist.  This Wednesday the Blind Tiger Ale House will be featuring his newest creation:  a series of single-hopped IPA's, using the same yeasts, malts and fermentation temperatures in order to maintain consistency in order to point out the unique characteristics of the specific hop used in each beer.  The list of hops he managed to get his hands on are quite impressive, especially the slowly becoming rarer and harder to find Sorachi Ace.  Check out your options:

Bravo Cascade Centennial Cluster Columbus Galena Super Galena Mt. Hood Nugget Tettnanger Willamette Citra Palisade Simcoe Warrior Challenger Magnum Amarillo Sorachi Ace

It's going to be hard to rank these from favorite to least favorite when everything will be the favorite.

The Blind Tiger is located at Bleecker Street between Jones Street and 7th Avenue, West Village, Manhattan.

Thursday, June 9 - Elysian Brewing Tap Takeover @ Barcade, Jersey City:

What's the best thing to happen to New Jersey since, well, ever?  Barcade.  The citizens of the Garden State haven't rejoiced this much in years.  Finally, a place to drink craft beer and play sweet old school video games.  What more could you ask for?  An Elysian Brewing tap takeover.  Happening this Thursday.  Elysian will be bringing their finest brews, which for some, are the first time touching Jersey's shores.  Hopefully it won't be too traumatic.  I'm sure we all remember the first time we touched Jersey's shores.

You can find Toro Oro, Groaning Board, XOXO, Yuzu, Analog Pale Ale, Idiot Sauvin IPA, Barca Bitter, Pandora's Bock, Elk Frost, Triacula, Men's Room Red, Immortal IPA, Prometheus IPA all at Barcade this Thursday.

Barcade Jersey City is located 163 Newark Avenue between Wayne and Mercer streets  in  Jersey City, New Jersey.

Saturday, June 11 - Barrier Brewing Co. @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn:

Barrier Brewing Company is one of the most recent and most successful (for it's age) breweries on Long Island.  Technically Brooklyn is geographically on Long Island, but we'll consider this a jump off the Island for the brewery as they trek to GRAB Specialty Foods this Saturday for the newest installment of GRAB's Saturday free tastings series.  Check out the perfectly hopped IPA's that Barrier has to offer.   You won't regret it.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
