New York City Craft Beer Events for the Week of May 22, 2011

Graham

Hallelujah! The Apocalypse/Judgement Day/Coolest Party Ever has been averted! Well, maybe it wasn't ever going to happen in the first place, or maybe somebody out there prayed really hard...or the Big Guy upstairs didn't want to end the ingenuity of American Craft Brewing just yet.  You know, just when it was starting to get good. Tuesday, May 24 - Founders Takes the Taps @ Rattle n' Hum, Manhattan:

Founders Brewery has quickly become one of New York City's favorite craft breweries.  Just yesterday I saw Founders Pale Ale at a Morton Williams.  And last week, their Rye was on sale at a local bodega.  They've caught on and they've caught quick.  Rattle n' Hum will be handing over control of their 40+ draught lines to the Grand Rapids brewery.  You can better believe that you will not be disappointed with what they'll be bringing.  Check out the list:

Pale Ale Centennial IPA Porter Double Trouble Cerise Dirty Bastard Reds Rye Old Curmudgeon Nemesis Backwoods Bastard Breakfast Stout Kentucky Breakfast Stout Black Biscuit Imperial Stout Kaiser Curmudgeon Canadian Breakfast Stout

Canadian Breakfast Stout is the Breakfast Stout aged in Maple Syrup barrels.  Holy Crap.

Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between Madison and 5th Avenues, Midtown Manhattan.

Tuesday, May 24 - So You Think You're A Beer Geek? @ TapRoom 307, Manhattan:

Alright, just cause we at the beer friends speak fluent Malton and occasionally dress up as hop-nuggets doesn't make us beer geek's.  Actually spending our free time running a beer blog probably is what makes us beer geeks.  Well, it's time to be proud of who we are.  A newly minted beer bar titled TapRoom 307 in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan is throwing a unique event.  Their geekiest patrons will be bringing their rarest and best bottles of bought and home-brewed beer AND the owners will be uncorking their own favorite selections from their private bottle cellar.

All you have to do to join in the fun?  Bring your favorite rare, delicious or homemade bottled brew and $12 for a tasting glass.  Then get ready to sample the deliciousness that everyone else brought.

TapRoom 307 is located at 307 3rd Avenue between 23rd and 24th Streets, Murray Hill, Manhattan.

Wednesday, May 25 - Bear Republic Night @ The Blind Tiger Ale House, Manhattan:

The Bear Republic stands for much more than a brewery that brews fantastically hoppy brews out of California.  It stands for the growing brewing tradition in the nations most famous state.   Bear Republic brewery will be bringing their finest brews to the Blind Tiger Ale House this Wednesday.   Check out the list:

Cher Ami Heritage End 10 Carburetor Volks Bier El Oso Mai Bock Ryevalry Stick Ball Alt Racer 5 Red Rocket Hop Rod Rye

Sorry Freddy, no Crazy Ivan.  Maybe next time.  You should still go check it out though.

The Blind Tiger Ale House is located at 281 Bleecker Street between Jones Street and 7th Avenue, West Village, Manhattan.

Wednesday, May 25 - Deers and Beers with Founders Brewery @ The Double Windsor, Brooklyn:

Now this is a man's man beer event.  We're talking beer out of the Michigan woods and animals killed in those woods.  With someones bare hands.  Yeah, I know.  Man's man.  Really though, Founder's hometown, Grand Rapids, isn't quite the woods and the venison is probably from upstate New York.  Regardless, Founders Beer + Venison = Straight Manliness.

Founder's will be bringing several great brews to the Double Windsor in Park Slope, Brooklyn, who in their honor will be serving up delicious venison based grub.  We're talking venison burgers, venison carpaccio, and homemade venison charcuterie.

The brews include the Nemesis Barley Wine, Curmudgeon Old Ae, Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale, Red’s Rye PA, Centennial IPA, Porter and Pale Ale.

The Founder's Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki, will be on hand to discuss the ins and outs of brewing the over the top flavors of Founders brew.  You might learn something.  That is if you can catch him in between bites of venison deliciousness.

The Double Windsor is located at 210 Prospect Park West at 16th Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Thursday, May 26 - Oysters and Captain Lawrence @ Jimmy's No. 43, Manhattan:

Hey Jimmy's No. 43, we here at the Beer Friends just wanted to say thank you.  Thank you for starting and continuing, with such awesomeness, your oysters and brewery nights every week.  We love oysters and we love breweries.  We especially love brewery's with nautical themes.  Like Captain Lawrence (remember their domination in the Beer Friends Final Four?).  Thank you for hosting Captain Lawrence this Thursday and for pouring their staples and new/rare releases.  Thank you for combining their brews with oysters shucked by your ace-oyster-shucker Eddie Oyster.  We'll see ya there!  Thanks for having us.  In advance.   And thank you Captain Lawrence for brewing such fantastic beer.

Jimmy's No. 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street (downstairs) between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, East Village, Manhattan.

Saturday, May 28 - Sixpoint Presents the UEFA Champions League Final @ The Spring Lounge, Manhattan:

We learned something new about Sixpoint that we never knew before:  they love European football.  We support that.  We also support the release of their most famous brews in cans, available for purchase all around the five boroughs.  The Spring Lounge (Little Italy's most famous and possibly only craft beer bar) is claiming that they will be one of the first bars in the city to release for consumption Sixpoint Bengali Tiger cans.   Do we believe them?  Ya know, even if they're not telling the truth you'll still get to drink a bunch of Sixpoint draught pours.  And watch a pretty awesome soccer match-up: Manchester United vs. FC Barcelona.

I just don't see how that could end pourly.

The Spring Lounge is located at 48 Spring Street, at the corner of Mulberry Street, NoLita, Manhattan.

Saturday, May 28 - Founders Brewing Company @ GRAB Specialty Foods, Brooklyn:

This week's NYC Craft Beer events has a recurring theme if you haven't noticed:  Founder's.  I wanted to end this post by expressing the Beer Friends love for Founders Brewing Company.  Not in a weird way though.  Just in a way where we want to consume their brews at Rattle n' Hum, enjoy them with some Venison burgers at Double Windsor and finish the week off with some free tastings at GRAB Specialty Foods in Park Slope, Brooklyn.  They'll be pouring a secret selection of Founders at the store this Saturday.  To be honest, they can keep it secret until the event is over and we'd still be happy.  Their beer tastes that awesome.

GRAB Specialty Foods is located at 438 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
