The beginning of February is a very important time for craft beer lovers and it all comes down to a furry rodent named Punxsutawney Phil. On February 2nd Phil makes a lot of decisions for us beer lovers. Helps us set our calendars and prepare our drinking schedules for the next several months. Are we sticking with stouts, imperial IPA's and barleywines while the weather stays frigid? Or can we start planning our spring transition brews, thinking about citrusy IPA's and begin dreaming of Saisons? I'm not sure which outcome I'd like more, but I do know that it's all up to Phil. Tuesday, February 1st - White Birch Brewery @ Rattle n' Hum:
Never heard of White Birch Brewery? Well, Thursday is a good time to get acquainted with them. They will be pouring a selection of their favorite brews hoping to introduce New York City to their little known New Hampshire brewing operation. The Beer Friends love New Hampshire and the beer they brew. We plan to get acquainted with them as well.
Rattle n' Hum is located at 14 East 33rd Street between 5th and Madison Avenues.
Wednesday, February 2nd - Stout Night @ The Stag's Head, Manhattan:
Just in case Phil is afraid of his shadow and runs back into his hole you need to be prepared for the lengthening of these cold, blustery winter months. Heading to the Stag's Head on Wednesday would be a good place to begin your training. The Stag's Head, on the Upper East Side will be featuring their favorite stouts from our favorite breweries. Think chocolates, coffees, bourbon aged and milk. Think delicious. Love winter while it lasts...
The Stag's Head is located at 252 E 51st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.
Thursday, February 3rd - Pretty Things Social @ Bierkraft, Brooklyn:
Pretty Things NYC Rep Jim Barnes will be heading out to Bierkraft for a night of Pretty Things pours and tastings. While your out there pick up your favorite six-pack and Pretty Things growler fill. Stay for awhile and chat with Jim about all the Pretty Things that this winter has to offer - specifically their brews.
Bierkraft is located at 191 Fifth Ave between Sackett and Union Streets, Brooklyn.
Friday, February 4th - Sunday, February 6th - Barley Wine Weekend @ David Copperfields House of Beer:
This event is definitely reserved for this week's winter temperatures and crappy "wintery mixed" precipitation - i.e. rain, snow, suck. Barleywines have quickly become a favorite style of brew for us Beer Friends and this event has plenty of them for us, and you to try. Copperfields has a wide range of Barleywines for you to try from bourbon aged, candy sweet, malty smooth and hoppily bitter. Any way you take em' they will warm the back of your throat and give you the confidence to face the cold (and suck) that a New York City winter has to offer. The list of Barleywines at the event will be forthcoming. Check back for updates!
