Featured Brewery: Equinox Brewing

Brad

Hello Beer Friends Nation! The Fort Collins Brewery scene is controlled by Odell's and New Belgium, and the locals all know to go to Coopersmith's Pub - but there is a new player in the world of Northern Colorado brewing, Equinox Brewery.  Located within miles of New Belgium, Odell's and Coopersmith's, Equinox is a young brewery (opened in April) and hidden down Remington Street.  There is a great local brewery feel when you walk in, much like a coffee house but for beer.  Everyone there knows why they're there - not to impress with flashy clothes, or get wasted  - but to enjoy good beer.  High top tables fill the left side of the room with the bar straight ahead, to the left of the bar is the merchandise and in front of the bar the board games(!).  Journey to the right and the room opens up to extra seating, bathrooms and a hallway to their recently opened Beer Garden.  We enjoyed this place because of the freshness, and the possibilities abound.  As for the beers:

Sunrise Golden Ale is their lightest beer, crisp, with a slight sweetness.

Vernal Hefeweizen is brewed in traditional Bavarian style, having the banana/clove aroma and flavor, a simply tasty hefeweizen.

Midsummers Pale Ale was the Beer Friends favorite.  Typically pale ales struggle to stand out with only a few memorable ones (Freshchester from Captain Lawrence and Dale's Pale Ale from Oskar Blues) but this one might take the cake.  It has a bright, crisp taste to it, but doesn't give away any flavor.  Sadly this is listed as a seasonal brew...

Orbit ESB was hoppy, more so than the MidSummers but not as much as the Zenith IPA.  It finished clean with the malts rolling of the tongue and very little aftertaste.

Zenith IPA was hoppy with a slight reserve.  Having some Hop-heads in the group, this wasn't as hoppy as a Bengali Tiger (Sixpoint) but had enough to distinguish itself as a style.

Sunset Stout has a chocolate aftertaste with hints of coffee.  Very delicious because it isn't a full coffee or chocolate stout, it balances the line between the two nicely and has a soft creamy finish.

Equinox Brewery is located on 133 Remington Street, Fort Collins, Colorado [googlemaps http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=133+Remington+Street+Fort+Collins,+CO&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=39.729049,69.257812&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=133+Remington+St,+Fort+Collins,+Larimer,+Colorado+80524&z=14&ll=40.58652,-105.07555&output=embed&w=425&h=350]
